What is a card management system?
The engine behind every card in your wallet — and what it actually does all day.
Take a card out of your wallet. A bank gave it to you, set how much you can spend, approves or declines every tap, sends you a statement, and takes your payment. The software doing all of that on the bank's side is a card management system, a CMS.
A CMS is the issuer's system of record for cards. It knows every card ever issued, who holds it, what it's allowed to do, how much room is left to spend, what has been spent, and what is owed. When you tap at a coffee shop, the request races from the shop's terminal through networks to the issuer's CMS, which answers one question in a few hundred milliseconds: approve or decline?
Beyond that split-second decision, the CMS runs the slower rhythms of card life: producing and delivering plastic (or virtual cards, instantly), cutting monthly statements, calculating fees and profit, tracking installment plans, handling lost cards and replacements, and managing disputes when a charge goes wrong.
Everest is Dgpays' CMS. It runs credit, debit and prepaid programs for banks and fintechs on one platform, and everything it can do is exposed through the APIs in this portal. You don't need to know how card networks work internally to use it — the business journeys walk you through each capability step by step.
